Welcome to bless the earth.
The concept of
bless the earth was intended as an expression of environmental
conscience as a manifestation of our conscious existence. By using
meditation as a vehicle to bring greater awareness into our thoughts
and actions, we can discover our own inner peace, not only for the
benefit of ourselves and all others, but for the environment too!
There are as many expressions of individual consciousnesses in this
world as there are people, animals, birds, fish and insects etc; how
many trillions of individual expressions is that?
However, in the human realm, many of us take our existence for
granted, a state of being that's on some sort of permanent auto
pilot; we seem to exist in such and such a place, this is my life,
these are my possessions, my family, my body, my feelings.
It's unfortunate however that as thinking humans, our sense of being
can lead us to extreme behaviour in pursuit of our comforts and
often exaggerated needs, which invariably precede any consideration
as to where those resources actually came from.
But what would it mean to you, to stop for a moment and
consider the consequences of your everyday actions?
To consider that almost everything we consume has an endless chain
of interlinked events and which required incredible demands on the
earth to provide them; all the materials and/ or chemicals, the
energy consuming heat processes in manufacture, the transportation
(all that steel and fuel), all the people and their mobility, all
the factory and storage buildings, all the electricity, gas, fuel
oil, the machines that make the machines; the chain is absolutely
endless!!
But even in your own story;
Do you really need to throw away one
thing just to buy the latest thing?
Do you really need to fly up the
country when you could take a train?
Do you really need to boil a full
kettle of water for one mug of tea?
Do you need to leave all the lights
on, and leave your TV's and monitors on standby?
Do you need to leave all your power
supplies plugged in, generating wasted heat?
Do you think of the VAST amounts of
power (for the servers and their cooling)
required by
the thousands of server farms around the world running the internet?
Do you really need to buy your
vegetables in HDPE moulded packaging?
Do you share a single thought for the
animal or fish you're about to eat?
I guess by now you've got the drift?

the
Bless the Earth mantra;
bless the earth..
For all of the food, water and air
the earth provides for nearly 7 billion people,
countless animals and other creatures;
For all the material resources we enjoy and throw away,
the earth has provided it all;
For the abuse of our planet, the destruction we cause,
and toxins we pour back into her, she absorbs it all
without complaint.
Through all the of the wars, famines and disasters, the
earth is at perfect peace.
What a beautiful world in which we live!
What a beautiful moment this is! |
Having a conscience-awareness isn't about abandonment
of life to live in a naturally formed cave; it could be about
abandonment of our attachments to things; but more important, it's
about living life to the full, but in full awareness of our every
action.
